Floods in Pakistan

HOPE worldwide is now a part of the United Nations response team for immediate and urgent impact on the affected populations. We are working as part of the Food Security Cluster. Other areas include health, shelter, nutrition, protection (security), and logistics and communications. Our goal is to get immediate food supplies into the hands of the people that are without homes, without jobs, without cooking utensils, and without hope. We are applying to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) for funding to do this on a broad scale in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and Baluchistan Province, two of the most severely hit locations. In KP alone, well over 2 million people have been impacted. Baluchistan is a remote Province in southern Pakistan that has been ignored by most of Pakistan and Iran for centuries. They are in desperate need of help. Though we will surely receive government funding for our programs, we urgently need the immediate funding that many of you could provide to get started right away.

Our first goal is to provide monthly food packets to 400 families in the most severe area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa outside of Peshawar for a period of five months. Each monthly packet will contain the following UN-mandated items:

40 kg flour
 5 kg cooking oil
 5 kg rice
 5 kg sugar
 5 kg pulse
 1 kg black tea
2 large containers of bottled water

These few items are sufficient to feed a family of 7 for one month. As you can see, this is still not very much food. But it is adequate. How many of us would be willing to survive on these few items for a month? But the Pakistan people are begging for this help. These items can be purchased locally, taken to the flooded area and distributed by HOPE worldwide for just $165 per family. I am asking my friends and supporters of the poor to adopt one family for one month for a donation of $165. Our goal is to supply food for 400 families for five months in our first phase.

Never Underestimate the Power of Good Coffee!!

December 7, 2008 20:05 by Admin

On the beautiful evening of October the 12th, Paula and Anthony York and myself baptised a very excited Michelle Freeman, amidst rows of beached jellyfish! .... A disciple was made however!!

Michelle is a 3rd year education student who attends Deakin University, Burwood, and is newly married to husband Leigh. I met Michelle on cold, windy day standing in a coffee queue, as we tried to get warm through our beverages in the Plateau cafe. Michelle asked me what I was doing on the Campus, and I told her about the bible discussion groups we held there. She informed me that she was looking for 'christian friends' on campus....and so the beginning of a life-changing journey! From the time she came to her first bible discussion armed with doughnuts ,we had high hopes for her! Paula and I studied with her weekly and with every challenge she faced, Michelle would reliably come to the following study having worked through it.

As a young christian Michelle is eager to grow and learn to lead others in the 'teen ministry' and on 'Deakin Uni'. It has been a priviledge to get to know her, and I thank God for her daily.p.s.(Never underestimate the power of a good coffee!!)....CONGRATULATIONS MICHELLE!!!!
